As well as the many places to visits, sights to see, areas to explore and the countless number of activities and things to do in West Cork, the area also plays host to some of Ireland’s much-loved concerts and gigs.
The Murphy’s presents Cork X Southwest Music and Arts Festival 2011
The Cork X South West Music and Arts Festival is to be held at the stunning 200 acre countryside setting Liss Ard Estate in Skibbereen, West Cork on Saturday 4th and Sunday 5th June. This year’s Music Festival includes acts such as Echo and the Bunnymen, Patti Smith, Yuck, Mick Flannery and Fred, and will include multiple stages, free camping, ‘slow food’ village, vibrations Eco-Arts Space, Poetry Tent, Workshops, Talks, Exhibitions and much more...
A main part of the celebrations of the Cork X Southwest Music and Arts Festival is the Fringe festival, which takes place that same weekend from Friday 3rd June around the town of Skibbereen. Over a dozen of the best up and coming acts from West Cork and beyond will be performing as part of this Fringe Festival within the bars around the town, followed then by some top DJs in the 2 local nightclubs, all contributing to the electric atmosphere which has been a feature of this festival to date.
The Baltimore Fiddle Fair
During the Baltimore Fiddle Fair, May 5th – 8th 2011, traditional Irish music fills Baltimore square and pubs.The Baltimore Fiddle Fair is a very unique festival. It consistently features a world-class line-up of national and international acts (worthy of any major city festival) yet present them in intimate settings in and around the beautiful seaside village of Baltimore in West Cork.
Since its humble beginnings in 1992 it has grown and developed to become perhaps Irelands best-loved small music festival and has a reputation for innovation and excellence that encourages many visitors to come back every year from UK, Europe, USA and from all over Ireland.
The combination of the truly exceptional talent on show, along with the stunning setting of our concerts and the friendliness of the local community means that many visitors return each year to sample the unique delights of this festival.
The Baltimore Fiddle Fair is a jewel in the crown of Irish festivals – taking place on the second weekend of May every year, it is looked upon as being the ‘kick start’ of the Irish festival season and the beginning of the Summer Season in Baltimore.
Next year it promises to be a magical weekend considering standard and talent of all the musicians taking part - a top up of pure heaven... Tickets will be on sale from St Patrick's Day (March 17th).
As usual there'll be a selection of top class workshops and numerous sessions going on all weekend.
This exciting line-up promises to be as good if not better than last years tremendous Fiddle Fair, and the full programme will be published shortly.
